(Greenland, NH)—On September 14, The United Way Day of
Caring was once again, a great success for New
Generation, a shelter for homeless pregnant women and
mothers with young children. More than 20 volunteers
from Liberty Mutual and
Employee Benefit Plan
Administration
helped complete
projects inside and outside at the shelter, daycare, and
thrift shoppe.
Volunteers came from
two offices to help David Duggan, longtime volunteer
handyman of New Generation, finish various projects.
Liberty Mutual has chosen New Generation as its Day of
Caring worksite for the last four years. The shelter’s
main office was repainted, and stock in the thrift
shoppe shed and furniture barn was reorganized. Trees
and bushes that had flourished this summer were all
pruned, and gardens were weeded for the fall season.
In spite of a very hot
and humid day, the spirits and energy of the volunteers
were extremely high. “Two women who were doing
landscaping in the hot sun kept asking for more work
saying, ‘Use us while you have us.’ All in all it was an
incredibly successful day and we are so grateful to the
volunteers and the United Way,” said Toni Trotzer,
Executive Director.
