For Immediate Release:
Letter to Editor: Benefit Dinner Dance a Swinging Success
Friday,
November 17, 2006 (Greenland, NH)—On behalf of New
Generation Shelter in Greenland, heartfelt thanks go out to
all those who contributed to a 50‘s dinner dance that raised
$1,400 to fill the shelter’s food pantry. Over 70 people
gathered last night to eat a spaghetti feast and dance to
50’s hits. Food donations were stacked high at the main
entrance, and the event was a sellout.
We
especially thank Event Organizer Dot Smith of Exeter who
organized the event, sold tickets and ran all over town
collecting raffle items; Underwriter Patrick O’Keefe of La
Famiglia who not only donated his restaurant but cooked a
fine spaghetti feast to boot; Sponsors The Riverwoods at
Exeter, Secondwind Water Systems of Manchester, and Idea
Office Solutions of Exeter; DJ Jeff Chichester, Greenland
Food Pantry, and our residents who greeted dinner guests and
made dessert for all. Raffle items were donated by: Seacoast
Repertory Theater, Saunders on Rye Harbor, Dot’s Flower
Shop, Newick’s of Dover, Margaritas Mexican Cantina of
Exeter, Bugaboo Creek in Newington, Polly’s Flower Shop in
Exeter, On the Vine Marketplace in Exeter, Splash of Style
in Exeter, and Gail and Mike Locke at the Vintner’s Cellar,
Portsmouth.
New Generation Shelter is home
to seven women and their children at a time, and provides
counseling, parenting education, life skills,
transportation, and aftercare. Three other services are:
Second Generation Thrift Shoppe and Generation Gap Furniture
Barn (all proceeds support New Generation programs), and
Next Generation Daycare. The shelter collects food and wish
list items year round and is now seeking volunteers to help
plan the 15th Annual New Generation Dinner
Auction coming in April, 2007. To donate items, call
603-436-4989, or view our wishlist at:
