4th Annual Charity Women’s Golf Tournament for New Generation Shelter raises $18,400

Tuesday, October 2, 2007 (Greenland, NH)—The 4th Annual Women’s Charity Golf Tournament raised $18,400 for New Generation Shelter last Tuesday, with 100 players competing for prizes under a beautiful sunny sky. Chairperson Beverly Barney and Sandy Scovell of Florida were recognized for their dedication. A former shelter resident told her story of homelessness to work; she is now working full-time and living in her own apartment with her son. All proceeds support the shelter and its counseling, parenting education, nutrition and life skills training, transportation, and aftercare programs.

First place tournament winners were: Pam Hunt, Claire Isenstein, Suzy Jones, Lisa Dale at 10 under par. Scramble second place winners were: Mrs. Michael Culbert, Ginger Johnson, Carri Rosenthal, and Lyn Howard. The 3rd Place winners were Debra Weiss Ford, Mary Beth Purcell, Laura Van Heerden, and Cheryl Strong. Contests for longest drive, closest to the pin, putting, and a $10,000 Hole in One were also held at the event.

New Generation Shelter houses seven women and their children at a time, providing counseling, parenting education, nutrition classes, job skills and life skills. Residents are driven to partnering agencies for housing, health and social service appointments, work, and education classes. Other services include: Second Generation Thrift Shoppes in Greenland and Rochester (all proceeds support the shelter’s operating costs), and Next Generation Infant & Toddler Center, offering full-time care to
