National Volunteer Week 2005
It is truly heartening to see such a young person donate so much of her time for the good of others. It truly does give us faith in the next generation who will be the leaders of tomorrow. Volunteer Recognition Week for New Generation Shelter was hopping with activity. Wednesday evening, Rachel Gowen of Greenland received a Spirit of the Seacoast Award for her dedication to Second Generation Thrift Shoppe and Generation Gap Furniture Barn. Thursday was New Generation’s Annual Volunteer Dinner recognizing ten of 30 volunteers who donate their time and talent in the shelter, daycare, thrift shoppe, and furniture barn regularly. After a dinner feast in the shelter’s kitchen, volunteers were given garden plants donated by Carpenter’s Olde English Greenhouse & Florist in Newmarket. Alicia Cayer, the Toddler Teacher at Next Generation Daycare, presented a Volunteer of the Year Award to Francesca “Frankie” Antezana, a student at Newmarket High School, for her dedication and commitment to daycare children. Other volunteers recognized at the dinner included: Laura Dawes (shelter); Mr. & Mrs. John Fortin, Emilia Graceffa, Phil Jarosz, and Nancy Blake, (past and present board members); Mr. & Mrs. Phil Fili, Lisa Cote, and Linda Mahoney (thrift shoppe and furniture barn), and Joanne Bisson (daycare).
